Pipe Network Monitoring Solution

2023-06-14

I. Industry Background

Pipeline networks are critical infrastructure for modern cities and the lifeblood of enterprise survival and development. Facing the complex urban pipeline network, comprehensively surveying the current status of all pipeline types, rapidly and accurately acquiring pipeline data, and mastering basic pipeline information and potential accident hazards are important guarantees for the sustainable development of modern cities and effective response to sudden disasters.

II. Pain Point Analysis

  1. High Data Update Frequency: The increase in sporadic projects leads to a high frequency of pipeline network data collection and updates, resulting in significant cost investment.

  2. Lack of Standardized Collection Processes: Non-standardized data collection and entry processes lead to low data accuracy.

  3. Complex Data Update Workflow: The traditional separation of field and office operations results in a cumbersome data update workflow and low data collection efficiency.

III. Solution

The Integrated Pipeline Data Collection and Entry Solution by Innovation Group aims to achieve the overall goal of "smart pipeline network management." It seeks to improve the efficiency and quality of pipeline data collection and updates by standardizing field data collection processes for underground pipelines, seamlessly connecting with office-based data collation for underground pipeline data, while supporting mainstream domestic and international GIS platforms to meet the needs of timely and rapid updates of underground pipeline information in urban management.

3.1 Application Systems

3.1.1 Integrated Pipeline Data Collection and Entry System
Innovation Group’s Integrated Pipeline Data Collection and Entry System is a high-precision data collection software running on Android tablets. It supports connectivity with most RTK devices with Bluetooth functionality on the market. By breaking the traditional "field collection + office processing" model, it enables the collection and entry of spatial and attribute data for pipelines before/after backfilling, standardizing the field data collection process for pipeline networks.
3.1.2 Innovation Group Pipeline Data Editing System
Developed based on a C/S architecture, the Innovation Group Pipeline Data Editing System enables functions such as query, statistics, editing, inspection, and data entry for pipeline networks. The system provides online and offline editing modes, and edited data can be directly imported into a GIS database after review. It supports convenient entry of pipeline data in multiple formats such as CAD, SHP, and EXCEL from various sources, making pipeline data updates more convenient.

3.2 Hardware Support

The hardware devices involved in Innovation Group’s Integrated Pipeline Data Collection and Entry Solution include but are not limited to: RTK, total stations, tablets, etc.
3.2.1 RTK
RTK is primarily used in conjunction with the integrated pipeline data collection and entry system for collecting, processing, and entering spatial and attribute data of water supply pipelines before/after backfilling.
3.2.2 Total Station
The total station is mainly used in conjunction with RTK and the integrated pipeline data collection and entry system for collecting, processing, and entering spatial and attribute data of water supply pipelines before/after backfilling, primarily to improve data collection and measurement accuracy.
3.2.3 Tablet
The solution plans to use tablets in combination with RTK, total stations, and the integrated pipeline data collection and entry system to achieve pipeline data collection.

IV. Solution Highlights

  1. Integrated Collection and Mapping: Realizes integrated operations of "data collection—mapping—review—entry," requiring fewer man-hours for the same workload, reducing production input, and increasing efficiency.

  2. Enhanced Data Accuracy: High-precision pipeline data collection with minimal errors lays a foundation for subsequent refined pipeline network operations.

  3. Reduced Investment Costs: Assists in establishing an in-house detection team, reducing pipeline detection costs and saving expenses.
